Stellenbosch

The next morning we decided to hit the winelands in nearby Stellenbosch. After much negotiations with cab drivers we finally packed a cab full of people and headed off for the hour drive.

We enjoyed some free wine for a few hours and saw the small university town.

The real fun started after we left the winery and headed to Stellenbosch university for a good old fashioned rugby tournament. It was a tense match with rival South African universities. We made some friends from the visiting team before the game and made the mistake of letting them paint our faces with their colors. Fights ensued. I can tell you that rugby is an intense game with multiple injury on the field, that is nothing compared to the injuries in the stands. Multiple fights went down with some of us right in the middle of them. The home team won, and streakers ran through the field. Rugby is gnarly, point made.

That night we hung out with Stellenbosch students and proceeded to get wasted. South Africans know how to drink! I ended up losing track of my friends and wandered the streets alone for a good hour before finding some people to take a taxi back to the boat with.

On returning to the ship, some fellow SASers told us that not moments before Dave Chapelle had been hanging out in the wharf area, apparently he lives in the vicinity. They all got pics with him and shared jokes, I was jealous. Oh well...
